What You See About the Lane
- Mode, shipment mode, equipment, and team or solo
- Volume, weight, and total distance
- The stops in order, with the distance between them
- The contract’s effective dates, the current round, and the submission deadline
- The shipper’s target rate, if they entered one. Bids that meet it show a green check.

1
Choose Whether to Use the Fuel Schedule
If the RFP has a fuel schedule, decide whether your price includes fuel. See Using the Shipper’s Fuel Schedule below.
2
Enter Your Price
Enter your price as a Total or as Price / mi (or km). Fill in either one and Owlery calculates the other.
3
Add Transit Times (Optional)
Enter the transit time for each leg under Transit Time Per Stop. You can switch between days and hours. Add a max only if the time may vary.
4
Click Submit Bid
Your bid appears in the table at the top of the panel, with the date and who submitted it.
Changing a Bid
You can submit more than one bid on the same lane in a round. Each one is kept, and the shipper sees all of them. To withdraw a bid, open the menu on its row and choose Delete. Once a bid from your team is awarded on a lane, you can’t submit more bids on that lane.Using the Shipper’s Fuel Schedule
If the shipper linked a fuel schedule, you choose whether your price includes fuel. The toggle We agree to use the shipper’s fuel schedule is on by default.
Click Show next to the toggle to view the schedule. You can also open it from the RFP’s Fuel Schedule tab.
If you don’t see the toggle, the shipper hasn’t linked a fuel schedule, and your price is treated as all-in. This is true even if their documents describe a fuel schedule. Ask the shipper to link it if you want to bid a base rate plus fuel.
How the Surcharge Is Estimated
Owlery looks up the current U.S. on-highway diesel price published by the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA). It then finds the matching row in the shipper’s schedule. That row gives either a percentage of your line haul or a rate per mile. Diesel prices change every week, so the surcharge shown is an estimate at this week’s price. Hover over the fuel amount next to a bid to see how it was calculated.- Percentage schedule: your base rate is $2,000 and diesel falls in the 12% row. The surcharge is $240, so the shipper sees $2,240.
- Per-mile schedule: the lane is 500 miles and diesel falls in the $0.45/mi row. The surcharge is $225 on top of your base rate.
Pricing by Stop on Multi-Stop Lanes
On lanes with 3 or more stops, you can split your price into a line haul plus a charge for each stop after the first two. Turn on Price by accessorials above the price field.- Line haul: your rate for the move. Enter it as a total or per mile.
- Stop Charge 3, Stop Charge 4, …: a charge for each stop from stop 3 on. Stops are numbered in lane order, and the line haul covers stops 1 and 2. Stop 3 gets a charge whether it’s a pickup or a drop. Leave a charge blank or at 0 if you don’t charge for that stop.
- Total bid: line haul plus all stop charges. This is the price the shipper compares.
